About Restylane®

Take advantage of our ONLINE CONSULTATION to see if your a good candidate for Restylane® treatment. Its free and quick.

Restylane® is a long-lasting and crystal-clear gel for filling out lips, facial wrinkles and facial folds. Thanks to Q-Meds stabilization process the hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is almost identical to that naturally found in the body and only very slightly modified (0.5 - 1%). Other hyaluronic acid based, injectable implants are often modified by about 20%. Restylane® is therefore completely biologically degradable - the body’s metabolism of hyaluronic acid corresponds to 200 syringes of Restylane per day. The product is also naturally integrated into the tissue, thus allowing important nutritive agents to pass freely through the implant and cells to pass between fragments of the gel.

Details: Restylane® smoothes wrinkles and enhances lips instantly If you would like to blend wrinkles and folds or if you want to improve the image of your lips, there is a NEW ANSWER to your needs.

Restylane® is an innovation based on non-animal hyaluronic acid, manufactured by a unique method in the Q-Med Laboratories in Sweden. The treatment is performed by injecting Restylane® into the skin or lip, and because no skin test is required it takes less than 15 minutes. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and therefore dissolves naturally with time.

Procedure: Restylane® is injected into the dermis and provides volume where the concentration of the body’s own hyaluronic acid has decreased. One treatment session takes about 15 minutes. The results can be seen immediately and no scars or other marks are left on the face. Even though the treated area can swell up somewhat and be red for up to one day afterwards, it is quite possible to meet other people and work as normal. The patented stabilization method means that Restylane® has a longer-lasting effect than competing preparations.

Length: The treatment takes about 15 minutes and the result is prompt.

Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is recommended to ensure a pleasurable experience.

Side-Effects/Risks: Reactions are very uncommon, but about 1 in 2000 persons have experienced transient swelling, redness and tenderness at or near the treatment site(s) up to several weeks after treatment. For further details concerning your specific treatment, please consult the doctor.

Recovery: Immediately after the treatment the treated area can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result of the injection, and it generally goes away in 72 hours.

Results: How long the effect of Restylane® treatment lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection desired by the individual. However, we know that for the majority of the patients treated about 50-80% of the effect remains after 6 months. Most people choose to have a touch up done within a year of the original treatment. Clinical studies show that Restylane can offer a high degree of patient satisfaction even up to one year after treatment.

The great thing about Restylane® is that you can replenish your natural beauty whenever you feel the need. A touch up can be performed any time you like after the previous treatment.

Typical Questions From Patients:

What Is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a gel that is injected under the skin in order to add volume and lift up the lips, wrinkles and folds. It consists of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in the skin. Once in the skin, Restylane® works together with the body´s own hyaluronic acid and join forces to create volume.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid?
Some of the functions of hyaluronic acid in the body are creating volume to the skin, giving the eye its shape and lubricate joints.

How Is Restylane® Produced?
The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is, in contrast to other similar substances, not produced from animals. This means no risk for adverse events.

Which Areas Can Be Treated?
The most common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips but also other sites can be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct.

Which Result Can Be Obtained From A Lip-Treatment?
The vermilion border can be accentuated and the lips can be given more volume.

What Is Treatment With Restylane® Like?
A Restylane® treatment is a very easy and quick process. Since no skin testing is needed, the treatment can be made immediately and it takes about 15 minutes. The result is instant. Restylane® is injected with a very thin needle under the skin. The same needle used for Botox is used for Restylane® injections.

Do The Injections Hurt?
It is very individually depending on how pain sensitive you are. Dr. Cozzolino recommends local anesthesia to ensure a comfortable experience. A lip treatment can be uncomfortable and therefore, a nerve block is normally made.

Can The Material Be Removed?
No, but since Restylane® is a natural material it dissolves with time.

Is It Dangerous?
Restylane® is a safe product. Since hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, the skin does not react to the material. With over 100,000 people treated today, only a very small number of reactions have been reported. These reactions may consist of prolonged but temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness. Most have lasted for a couple of weeks.

How Will My Skin Look After The Treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, there may be a slight redness, swelling, tenderness or itching sensation at the treated area. This is only normal cause of the injection and the inconvenience is temporary, it generally goes away in 72 hours. After a lip treatment, the lips may get swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a several days (up to a week).

How Long Is The Effect?
Restylane® eventually totally disappears out of the body. How long the effect of a Restylane® treatment lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. For the majority of the patients after a wrinkle treatment about 50-80% of the effect remains after 6 months and most people choose to have a touch up treatment done within a year of the original treatment. For lip augmentation, a new treatment is needed after about 6 months.

How Will My Skin Look Without "Touchup" Treatments?
The correction will gradually disappear until your skin looks like it did before the treatment. Touch up injections will help you maintain your correction.
